Dear Sleepy Head,
Remember that day I found you out beside the concrete porch at that bank in Florida? My mommy and daddy were inside and I went outside and found you. You were munching on some cat food on the ground.
Sleepy Head, when I saw you, I just remember how your long, yellow hair glistened under the sun, and you were just the biggest, most gigantic cat I’d ever seen! Doggone it, I think you were almost as big as me then! I knew I wanted to take you home with me, and so I called mommy and daddy, and they asked the people at the bank, and the people at the bank were so happy that somebody finally wanted to take you and give you a good home!
Every day with you was like a day-full of sunshine! The long hours we spent up in the backyard tree, the lazy afternoons we spent laying around together and chewing on watermelon under the hot sun, the morning prayers that I spent praying with you…you were always there with me. For me.
When I announced one day that I could talk to you and you could talk to me, too, my mommy got a little shocked and asked people if I was okay. But I know we talked to each other, Sleepy Head! You loved me more than you loved anybody else, and I loved you that much, too!
When I had to say goodbye to you, I want you to know this, that was the last thing in the world that I wanted to do. The sun was setting that day, and it looked nice and warm reflecting on your yellow face. But mommy and daddy said I couldn’t bring you on the plane with me to the Philippines, so I just had to say goodbye Sleepy Head, I just had to. And it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.
I wrote to you, you know. In my little journal notebook. And I cried with every letter I wrote. If there was just some way that i could send them to you…if only you could read!
I’ve never really let go of you, Sleepy Head. I often wonder what happened to you, if you’re still alive. If life after me was good to you or not…I’m sorry I left you. But I had to. I have a dog now, a French Poodle! But I still think about you .
Goodbye, Sleepy Head. You’ll forever be in my heart. And one day, I believe I will see you in heaven.
