Your Message:    Dearest L.,

I love you.

I tell you that I love you quite often, and that’s because I do. I say it so often that I doubt you’ll ever forget it, and I hope you never do. But, for as long as you’re happy, for as long as you’re with him, forget me. All I want is for you to be happy, and so long as you are, there is nothing more that I can do.

I ask you for a lot of favours, and for that I’m sorry. I have two more favours to ask of you:

1)    Don’t read my Twitter: my Twitter is my thoughts, and they will only do more harm than good, I think, and it will mean that you will remember me more often, which will also do more harm than good.

2)    Remember that you are perfect. You don’t have to believe it; just remember it. Think three words to yourself: I am perfect. You are. Think it often, please.

I know I said for you to forget me, but if you’re ever sad, or in need of someone to talk to, or anything really, I’m always yours. I only exist to make you happy. I’ll devote every second of my time, should you ever wish.

Last time, when things between us ended, I wished so much to be able to send you just one letter to at least be able to say goodbye and that I love you, but maybe last time was for the best; knowing this date was coming up has been less than ideal for me, and writing you this letter is very difficult. In this, and in anything I can write, I will never be able to express to you how much I love you.

It’s saddening to think that these may be the last words I ever write to you. I don’t think this will be the end, it can’t be, we’ve spent too many years together for it to just end. Even if it’s when we’re old, 70 or something, slow, wrinkled, and almost useless, we’ll be together again. I’m sure of it. Maybe we’ll meet at a school reunion or something; you’ll have a successful husband, and adorable kids, and I’ll have a successful business, and adoration for you.

I can’t be certain that I’ll be in love with you forever, L., but I’ll certainly love you forever.

Yours eternally,

Dinesh
