Without having a plan for the night we went to a convenience store together and bought a bottle of red wine, plastic cups, and Doritos. We drove in circles for a little while trying to figure out what to do, until he parked at the entrance to the beach and smiled. At midnight, we walked on the sand and sat, staring at the stars, leaning into each other for hours. I remember thinking that this is what it’s supposed to be like. This is what life is supposed to be about. Wanting to ignore everything that happening around you and just enjoy any and all free time with this other person, who just wants to share their lives with you. I had never done that before and it was the most romantic thing I think I will ever experience. Not because of the smells, the setting but because of what it made me feel while I was there, on that beach. Listening to the sound of his heart beating and the rush of the oceans wave made me content. Nothing, but silence filled my head that night because I didn’t have to think about anything or question it. I knew there was nowhere else I would rather be.
