Toffee
We call you ‘Toffee Apple’
Or ‘Baby’, or ‘Kitten’ too
We call you several affectionate names
And they all suit you.
You were born, next door, on the 1st of June
2003 was the year
You were a tiny ball of ginger fluff
And you kept trying to suck my ear!
The year now is 2005
And you are two years old
A lot has happened to you, little love
But you were brave and bold.
A car hit you and left you
When you were seven months of age
A broken pelvis – among your injuries
Your tail amputated – you awoke in a cage.
At the vets you stayed for a week
And we were very worried for you
We came to see you every day
You gained strength, and you pulled through.
We love you, like a child
To us, you’re our little boy
Your funny ways – they do amuse
You are such a treasured joy.
This poem is all about you
Toffee – our wonderful cat
You give us your love, in return
And we’re honoured to have that.
You’re such a little darling
A comedian, it’s true!
So to our special baby
“Thanks for being you”.
